Boxing rehabilitation Sheffield

Brain Injury & Stroke Recovery Through Boxing.

Structured, boxing-based sessions for brain injury and stroke survivors in Sheffield — supporting people rebuilding routine, confidence and independence, one round at a time.

Why boxing

Boxing For Brain Injury.

Boxing training asks for coordination, balance, rhythm and focus all at once. Broken down into simple, repeatable drills, it becomes a practical way to work on the things that often change after a brain injury or stroke — movement, stamina, concentration and confidence in your own body.

Off The Canvas exists because our founder lived it. After his own brain injury, Luis Palmer found that the gym was where recovery started to make sense. Today, as an HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist and former professional boxer, he leads occupational therapy informed sessions for others on the same road.

What to expect

Stroke Recovery Exercise, Sheffield.

Non-contact

Pads, bags and footwork. Nobody spars and nobody gets hit.

Built around you

Sessions are adapted to your recovery, energy levels and goals — seated work included where needed.

Real-life goals

We focus on everyday goals that matter to you, tracked with Goal Attainment Scaling.

Our approach draws on the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and the Kawa Model, looking at motivation, routine and physical capacity together. This is boxing therapy in the everyday sense — a supportive way to move — not clinical occupational therapy treatment.

Looking for a structured group? Our Threshold programme is a 12-week course for brain injury and stroke survivors, launching in 2027.

FAQ

Common Questions.

Is it safe after a brain injury?

Sessions are non-contact and adapted to each person's recovery. Before you start we talk through your history and goals, and we may ask you to check with your GP, consultant or care team. Nobody spars or gets hit.

Do I need boxing experience?

No. Most people start with no boxing background at all. We begin with simple movement and pad work and build from there at your pace.

Is this occupational therapy treatment?

No. Our sessions are occupational therapy informed — shaped by OT principles and led by an HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist — but they are wellbeing and exercise sessions, not clinical treatment. They sit alongside your NHS or private rehab, not instead of it.

Can someone refer me?

Yes. Case managers, therapists, charities and family members are welcome to get in touch on someone's behalf.

Where are sessions held?

Rehab and recovery sessions run at TFC The Fitness Club in Sheffield city centre.
